Farmer doesn’t want a Christmas harvest

An Illinois farmer, like many farmers this year, is hoping his late planted corn and soybeans won’t mean he’ll still be harvesting at the end of the year.

“I just hope we’re done combining by Christmas, ” Rob Shaffer tells Brownfield Ag News that’s his biggest fear right now, “I don’t want another 2009 like we had. We finished Christmas Eve 2009 and I’m hoping not to repeat that this year.”

Shaffer, who farms in central Illinois, says he’s grateful for some warm days, finally, to give his late planted crops a boost. He finished planting corn in late June and his beans were in by July 3rd.
