Crop disease common across Midwest this year

Many farmers across the Midwest are seeing a variety of crop diseases because of increasingly hot and moist conditions.

Mike Meyer is a technical expert with Corteva.

“Frogeye leaf spot, mostly gray leaf spot, and in pockets throughout the Midwest we are seeing Physoderma Brown Spot,” he says.

He tells Brownfield now is the time for farmers to scout fields and consider fungicide application.

He says some farmers may be hesitant because of the down farm economy, but he thinks that applying fungicide will pay off in the end.

“The way you overcome low commodity prices is to maximize yield,” he says. “So if we have diseases that are going to rob bushels per acre, we have to treat them and manage them appropriately.”

Meyer spoke to Brownfield at the Corteva AgriScience media day in central Indiana.
