Bilateral deal with Japan is the ‘big prize’

A USDA Deputy Secretary says the U.S. is getting what would have been the big prize of the Trans Pacific Partnership. Steve Censky tells Brownfield bilateral trade talks planned for early next year with Japan are good news for U.S. farmers.

“Certainly we’re looking as we enter into these negotiations to have as good or better, and frankly we want to have even better access than what we would have had under the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement,” Censky told Brownfield Ag News prior his address to the Agricultural Business Council of Kansas City.

President Trump pulled the U.S. out of the twelve-nation TPP negotiations shortly after taking office. Remaining members of the agreement are currently in the process of ratifying it without the U.S.
