Aurora opens second organic dairy plant

Aurora Organic Dairy opened its second processing plant this week in Columbia, Missouri. Construction began almost two years ago. The company, based in Boulder, Colorado has another processing facility in Platteville, Colorado, and eight farms in Texas and Colorado. Most of Aurora’s milk comes from company-owned farms, but they buy from third-party producers who meet company standards.

The new plant will bottle shelf-stable organic milk in containers from a half-pint to a half-gallon, as well as flavored milks, half-and-half, heavy whipped cream and milk products for people with special dietary needs.

At the time of the ground breaking, company officials told Brownfield the Columbia plant would employ 90 people initially and as many as 150 within five years.
