Ag Secretary Perdue visits Farm Progress Show Wednesday

USDA Secretary Sonny Perdue could face some difficult questions from farmers when he visits the Farm Progress Show this week.

Perdue plans to arrive Wednesday, and he’ll likely be asked about the newly unveiled trade aid package aimed at helping offset producer losses from trade disputes the last few months.  Perdue on Monday called producers the tip of the spear during negotiations.

“But it’s a fact, they cannot pay their bills with simple patriotism.”

Reaction to the trade aid proposal by commodity groups has been mixed.  And with leadership for many of those organizations on-hand during Farm Progress, Perdue could be pressed into shedding more light on the Trump Administration’s long-term trade agenda.

In addition to Perdue’s visit, Lieutenant Governors from 11 states and Secretaries of Agriculture for 8 states are also expected between today and Thursday.  From the Farm Progress Show near Boone, Iowa, I’m Mark Dorenkamp for Brownfield.
