Graves optimistic the House can pass a farm bill

A U.S. Congressman from Missouri says it’s realistic to advance the new farm bill through the House this year.

Sam Graves tells Brownfield “I know Chairman Thompson is working very hard to make sure it happens. I think we’ll see a short-term extension through December, but he’s optimistic we’ll see it done and hopefully, the Senate can move it.”

Graves says the Senate is having challenges moving legislation and that might be a big hurdle for the farm bill. Graves also says the farm bill process has been frustrating due to the many different opinions on how money should be spent.

“Groups that want to take all of the money out of agriculture and the ag programs and put them in the nutrition programs and then, you have some people who don’t want to spend any money on ag policy.”
