93% of U.S. winter wheat has emerged

The USDA reports winter wheat emergence is in-line with the normal pace.

93% of the U.S. winter wheat crop has emerged, matching the five year average pace. 55% of U.S. winter wheat is in good to excellent condition, up 2% from the previous week. This time last year, 58% of the crop was rated good to excellent.

As of Sunday, 67% of the U.S. has adequate topsoil moisture, 3% higher than a year ago, and 65% has adequate subsoil moisture, up 2% on the year. Some areas are short to very short of subsoil moisture, including California at 80% and Nevada at 60%, with Oregon at 75% and Washington at 64%. For topsoil, California is at 85% short to very short, Oregon is at 53%, and Washington is at 56%.

The USDA’s national crop progress reports resume in April.
