Sen. Lindsey Graham turned on his own party during a television interview on CNN’s “State of the Union,” chiding Republicans for failing to pass immigration reform before President Obama issued an executive action granting amnesty to about 5 million illegals.
“Shame on us as Republicans for having a body that cannot generate a solution to an issue that’s national security, that’s cultural, that’s economic,” he said, The Hill reported.
He said that he “loves” his fellow Republicans in the House, but that they’ve largely failed to act on a bill that the Senate passed three times.
“I’m close to the people in the House,” he said, The Hill reported, “but I’m disappointed in my party. Are we still the party of self-deportation?”
Mr. Graham went on: “Is it the position of the Republican Party that the 11 million must be driven out? I have never been in that camp as being practical. I am in the camp of securing our borders first, fixing a broken legal immigration [system], have an E-Verify program so you can’t cheat.”
