Alternative Mix-Ins for Caesar salad

You don’t have to stick to tradition when it comes to Caesar salad. The following would make great additions:

  • Some mixed greens or baby kale
  • Sliced red onions
  • Sliced cucumbers
  • Crispy capers (pan fry in a touch of olive oil)
  • Black olives
  • Avocado pieces
  • Hard-boiled eggs
  • Crispy bacon
  • Grilled or boiled shrimp

Plus, you can make the salad healthier by using mostly Greek yogurt in place of the mayonnaise in the dressing. If you don’t want to use mayonnaise at all, here’s a link to five dressings with yogurt substituted.

Recipe Tip for the Cook

You can grill the chicken instead of cooking it in a pan to make grilled chicken Caesar salad. For a unique smoky flavor, use leftover Smoked Whole Chicken for the salad.

How to Store Caesar Salad

You can store chicken Caesar salad in an air-tight container for up to three days in the refrigerator. Keep in mind that if your salad has been sitting at room temperature for two hours or longer, it may no longer be safe to eat.

Also, in the refrigerator, the croutons will lose their crispness, and the greens will gradually become soggy and wilted, so don’t wait around too long to finish up this delicious salad.

  • It is not advisable to freeze this salad.
