Update (April 10, 2023): MFA will become a login requirement across all Citrix web properties on May 19, 2023.

Citrix enables companies around the world to do their best work, flexibly and securely, whether their assets are hosted on premises, or across hybrid cloud and multi-cloud environments. In early 2020, we took a key step toward enhancing the security of your Citrix Cloud assets by launching multi-factor authentication (MFA) for Citrix Cloud. Today, we’re announcing the extension of single sign on (SSO) with MFA to all Citrix properties.

Why are we extending MFA to all Citrix properties?

MFA is an effective way of protecting customer data against security threats like password spraying and credential stuffing. By implementing MFA along with SSO across all Citrix properties, you will be able to log in to all Citrix websites using the same Citrix credentials and authentication methods you currently do within your Citrix Cloud console. MFA is simple for admins to implement and won’t require on-prem infrastructure, added expertise, or cost. You’ll receive a consistent login experience and enhanced security with minimal additional effort to login.

How does it work?

Citrix offers both authenticator app and email MFA methods. The Authenticator app provides additional security and is the recommended MFA method.

Once implemented, you will be asked to use a time-based, one-time password (TOTP) on a secondary device, like a mobile device, as a second factor of authentication. You can choose a third-party app, like Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator.

As an alternative to the Authenticator app, you can also select the email MFA method. This feature will be automatically included in every additional Citrix property you have access to, with no additional action required.

What does it mean for Citrix administrators and helpdesk staff?

Everyone in your organization who visits a Citrix website will need to set up MFA to log into any Citrix property. This includes all the following properties: citrix.com/account; training.citrix.com; success.citrix.com; support.citrix.com; discussions.citrix.com; demo.citrix.com; and enablement.citrix.com. This authenticator app will need to be used every time one of your admins or helpdesk staff tries to access a Citrix web property, as an additional layer of security.

When should I set it up?

You’ll be able to opt in to MFA as early as August 1, 2022. When you log into any Citrix property, you will be asked if you would like to set up MFA. We strongly encourage you do so on your next login.

How do I get started?

You can enable and configure MFA by following the simple steps located here. Once you configure MFA, you will need to authenticate using your selected authenticator app or email MFA every time you access a Citrix property. Please ensure you also properly configure your account recovery methods, and save your backup codes in a safe place.

Please note: MFA will become a login requirement across all Citrix web properties on May 19, 2023.
