That isn’t even the question.

Everyone is looking at or has already moved workloads to the cloud. Cloud. Cloud. Cloud.

Sometimes, it’s all we hear. And it can make us feel “cloud-nauseam.”

It may seem like a forgone conclusion that people will move hosted desktops to the cloud. Hence, we have desktops as a service (DaaS).

If you’ve been looking at the news and word bubbles surrounding Microsoft Ignite (#MSIgnite) you have undoubtedly seen Microsoft Cloud, Azure, and maybe even Azure Virtual Desktops.

If you back out of the buzz and take in the bigger picture view of DaaS, you’ll realize that hosting a desktop alone may not satisfy all your needs. You still need to provide your employees with all the apps and data, and the experience they’ve grown to expect from their on-prem environment. But with the benefits the cloud provides.

And you know it’s not as easy as just lifting and shifting all your apps and data to the cloud. That legacy environment is going to be essential to your operations for a long time to come. This introduces Hybrid cloud, and the need for cloud versatility. But that space between the apps, data and the hosted desktops has to be looked at … closely.
