I think it safe to say that if you’re reading this blog post you have heard about, know of, or are even a Microsoft Azure expert. You may even be suffering from what I call “Cloud-Nauseum.” And you might already be registered for Microsoft’s largest partner event, #MSInspire. If you’re not, simply click here, but not until you finish this blog. Promise?

Leading up to #MSInspire I had the opportunity to talk to a few of the industry’s leading Citrix and Microsoft partners in my Emmy* winning series “Between The Clouds.” In the memorable words from the opening sequence of Law & Order

“These are their stories”

Envision IT

First in this “Between The Clouds” series are Scott Busse and Chris Pesce, two of the “Envisioners” from Envision IT. They gave me both sides of a story, technical and business operations, focused on a global financial services company that was looking to optimize their Microsoft Azure utilization. And it may go without saying that if a financial services company is looking to “optimize,” they also mean “reduce costs.”

Spoiler alert: As a result of Envision IT using Citrix with Azure they were able to optimize their images with Machine Creation Services (MCS) and then automatically spin down the virtual machines running in the cloud during off hours (think nights and weekends).

So, how much did they save? Tune in to find out.

Third Octet

Next up on “Between The Clouds” was THE CEO of Third Octet, Matt Metelsky. What I found fascinating about this story was their North Star guiding principle to “use cloud where cloud makes sense.” If you’ve been around the block a time or two like I have, you may remember when the IT world was in “all-cloud” mode. Just like the year of VDI, everything belonged in the cloud.

Third Octet takes a different, and much more practical approach. Let’s face it, some workloads will not now and may never transition to a public cloud. And that’s OK. Third Octet leans into a long relationship with Citrix to make sure their customers can move the right workloads to the cloud and manage them all in one place, with Citrix Cloud.

It’s this hybrid approach that makes Matt say, “We are literally Between The Clouds.” That’s something I can really appreciate. 😊
