Citrix Files for Windows combines the best features from ShareFile Sync, DriveMapper, and Desktop App into one unified experience for users on the Citrix Content Collaboration Platform (ShareFile).

We are excited to announce the general availability of a built-in sync to Citrix Files migration with the release of the 20.11.16 version of the Citrix Files for Windows App. The tool helps in migrating existing ShareFile sync users by copying or moving locally synced data and folder settings automatically over to the Citrix Files application. Because this occurs locally on the device, users will not have to re-download their files.

Until now, users looking to migrate from ShareFile sync to Citrix Files for Windows were only able to use the offline access feature, which allows files and folders to be selected and made offline initiating a re-download.

With the 20.11.16 version and above, the user will see the Transfer ShareFile Sync Data option in the menu to trigger the migration process.

The users can also choose between either Migrate or Copy to transfer data.

ShareFile sync is on the path to be deprecated. The end of life of the tool is set for 2021 (please see the Product Lifecycle Matrix), so we encourage all of our customers to leverage this built-in utility to move users from ShareFile sync to Citrix Files for Windows.

Moving to Citrix Files for Windows will also provide the users with more options such as:

  • Right click on folder/files to perform contextual actions like:
    • Manage folder permissions
    • Add items to Favorites
    • Initiate workflows
    • View item details such as notes and file versions
  • The ability to set notifications when users upload, download, rename files or folders. and check out or check in files

Please note that these options are available to users based on specific account settings, license entitlements, and permissions granted by their admin.
