A new Pulse and Citrix survey revealed that 71 percent of security executives are looking at replacing their traditional VPN technology with a zero trust offering.

Citrix has long been a leader in providing secure remote access to employees working from home or other locations. Historically, we have offered a secure way to remotely access desktops and “Windows and Linux” apps, but as we moved into a modern way to work, we announced secure access to SaaS applications in 2018 with Citrix Workspace.

But while you were enjoying the benefits of unifying your virtual and SaaS applications with Citrix Workspace, you were still struggling with traditional VPN appliances providing your remote workers access to on-premises web apps.

NEW: Citrix Secure Workspace Access and Citrix Secure Internet Access

At the Citrix Security Summit, Citrix showed how we are further broadening our cloud security stack. We announced two new services Citrix Secure Workspace Access and Citrix Secure Internet Access that allow Citrix to help most of you who are looking to move your on-prem security solutions like VPNs, SWGs, and DLP controls to cloud and delivered as a service.

Citrix Secure Internet Access is a brand-new service offering from Citrix that protects your users from any threat originating from the internet. Citrix Secure Workspace Access is a step forward from Citrix Access Control, protecting your workspace from any unauthorized access and providing data governance and data protection policies for apps accessed using Citrix Workspace. Citrix Secure Workspace Access is now generally available across all geo locations. With these two services, Citrix expands it ability to service zero trust and SASE use cases, while helping customers to consolidate their security and networking solutions.

The Value to Our Customers

As more and more organizations move to a flexible work model as a permanent way of working, connecting large number of employees, especially with BYO and unmanaged devices, comes with serious challenges.

As a result CIOs and IT leaders are modernizing IT to deliver a secure environment where workers can stay productive and get work done. Consider Synopsys, a Citrix customer that has adopted Citrix Secure Workspace Access.

“We are adopting more of the public cloud (IaaS, SaaS and hosted Apps), and we need resilient and secure channels that allow us to access them in an innovative and integrated way and ensure a consistent user experience,” said Sriram Sitaraman, Chief Information Officer, Synopsys. “With Citrix Workspace, we have started to move beyond traditional VPN solutions and now provide our employees and partners with zero trust and secure access to their infrastructure on corporate managed or BYO devices. And we can do it all within a single pane of glass, while maintaining a superior employee experience, which is very appealing.”

Words of Wisdom from Analysts

Organizations need to embrace these modern, consumer-modeled, user-friendly, and cloud-based working models. They allow for choice and flexibility for BYO and modern SaaS applications, but, at the same time, they need to ensure a safe and secure experience for external and hosted applications and data.

Citrix Secure Workspace Access service has earned acclaim from analysts. This solution is part of the momentum that spurred Gartner to include Citrix Workspace in the 2020 Gartner Market Guide for Zero Trust Network Access.

The table above is from a Gartner study that shows just how today’s organizations may change as a result of new norms and challenges. Read the guide here.

The market has already been witnessing this transformation, and key trends highlighted by industry analysts now back it up.

“Incorporating zero trust strategies across the enterprise security program is more important than ever to address the increasingly distributed footprint of the modern corporate environment,” said John Grady, Analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group. “Legacy approaches which enforce binary permit/block rules with limited context into the user, device, application, or data do not provide the granular control needed in a zero trust context. Organizations are moving towards zero trust not only to enhance their security posture, but to improve their employees’ user experience by providing secure access consistently, regardless of device or location. Citrix Secure Workplace Access provides a centralized approach to zero trust access to both on-premises and cloud-based resources, with a focus on contextual access and data protection.”

“Digital transformation has changed the way we work; the challenges of 2020 only confirmed the need for more dynamic and agile access solutions,” said Chris Rodriguez, Network Security Research Manager, IDC. “The VPN has long been a workhorse, but modern remote access solutions provide a seamless work experience for employees that improves productivity and security.”
