Citrix Workspace Environment Management (WEM) adds incredible value to your XenApp and XenDesktop deployments. It accelerates user logins to virtual apps and desktops and improves the server scalability of the infrastructure hosting your virtual apps and desktops — saving you time and money. It also simplifies the administration of Windows 10 policies — which improves both user experience and application security. Sounds great, right? How could we make it even better?

At Citrix Synergy 2018, we are announcing that Workspace Environment Management is coming to Citrix Cloud!

Workspace Environment Management service will make it easier to harness all the benefits of Workspace Environment Management in an easy-to-use, readily available Citrix Cloud service. Let’s talk through some of the key benefits of the cloud service:

  • Identical Management UI: Citrix is committed to ensuring Citrix Cloud services are aligned with existing on-premises capabilities and interfaces. Workspace Environment Management service will have the same management console available in the cloud service as in the on-premises installation. This is great news for you as it means that all your existing Workspace Environment Management knowledge is easily transferable to the cloud service.
  • Reduced infrastructure: Workspace Environment Management service removes the need to install and maintain the database and infrastructure services — all of this is handled by the Citrix Cloud service.
  • Fast access to new Workspace Environment Management capabilities: With Workspace Environment Management available as a cloud service, you get access to the newest capabilities and features when they are released.

If you are currently leveraging Workspace Environment Management, you will easily be able to export and import your settings to your Workspace Environment Management service environment, using the existing native Backup/Restore function, together with Citrix Cloud’s Upload feature.

Making Workspace Environment Management available as a cloud service aligns with the Citrix cloud strategy; we are committed to making it easy for you to consume our solutions as cloud services. That makes it easier for you to deliver secure digital workspaces to empower your business. This is just one more way Citrix Cloud enables both you, our customers, (and our Citrix workforce) to be more agile.

The latest features usually are deployed in the cloud service first, and then rolled into on-premises releases later. This usually happens once per quarter.

The Workspace Environment Management service will deliver all of the same benefits as the on-premises Workspace Environment Management — but without the need to install the infrastructure components or database. The Workspace Environment Management infrastructure components will be managed, maintained, and updated by Citrix, and you will just deploy the Workspace Environment Management agent on your VDAs. If not already in place, Citrix Cloud connectors are required to connect your Resource Locations to your Citrix Cloud environment. You will have the full feature set as the on-premises version of Workspace Environment Management without any of the management overhead!
