Citrix QuickLaunch Tool v4.2

Created Date: 12/20/2016

Modified Date: 12/30/2020

Description

Citrix QuickLaunch has been written to offer some features of the legacy Citrix Program Neighborhood for users of Citrix Receiver and Citrix WorkspaceApp releases for troubleshooting purposes.

IMPORTANT NOTES

  • This tool provides you with the ABILITY to create a direct connection to your VDA. Citrix does not supply support for issues or failures when connecting to your published resources using connections created with this tool.
  • This version of the tool is only for use with XenApp and XenDesktop 7.5 and later, including Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops and Citrix Cloud Connectors.
  • For XenApp 6.5 /XenDesktop 5.6 and earlier, please refer to CTX122536.
  • Please provide any feedback using https://podio.com/webforms/17840625/1199035.
  • Citrix QuickLaunch only support direct connections. It is not intended to create connections via Citrix ADC (Citrix NetScaler) or Citrix Gateway.
  • If Security key management is enabled on the Delivery Controller, Citrix QuickLaunch cannot be used (https://docs.citrix.com/en-us/citrix-virtual-apps-desktops/secure/security-keys.html )

Prerequisites

  • Version 3.0 or later of Citrix Receiver is required on the system where the tool is launched. It may work with older releases but hasn’t been tested.
  • Microsoft .Net Framework 4.5

Installing Citrix QuickLaunch

  1. Extract the contents of the zip file to a folder.
  2. The file CitrixQLDLL.DLL must exist in the same folder as CitrixQuickLaunch.exe

How to Use Citrix QuickLaunch

When running the Citrix QuickLaunch tool, you can specify the server name or IP address of a Delivery Controller or Cloud Connector. The tool offers a drop-down list where you can select a previous server. Then, specify the XML port (80 by default).

Note: For https connections with the XML service, a valid root certificate must be present on the machine where Citrix QuickLaunch is running.

Select “Enumerate resources” to gather published resources for the specified credentials. If “Use Anonymous mode” is checked, only anonymous resources will be provided, if any.

Both application names and browser names are shown (the browser name is indicated between parenthesis). Note: the browser name is the internal name and the application name is the defined one in the “Application name (for user)” in Studio.

If a published desktop (hosted on a single or multi session VDA) is selected, then the below information is provided:

The Long command line option is only enabled when selecting a published application.

When clicking on Long command line, the below popup is shown, inviting to verify the configuration as detailed in https://docs.citrix.com/en-us/citrix-virtual-apps-desktops/manage-deployment/applications-manage.html

The tool uses seamless mode by default, enabling Desktop Viewer if a desktop is detected.

Session Options Tab

Several features can be enabled/disabled from the “Session Options” tab:

The tool will use the same default settings as Program Neighborhood did. The local drives and printers are available inside the session, depending on the configuration of the Citrix Policies.

User Experience Tab

In the “User Experience” tab, additional parameters can be set

Hotkeys Tab

The hotkeys can be configured in the hotkeys tab:

When the tool is closed, the servers’ names, XML port, username, domain, selected options (such as display resolution, color choice, encryption, modified hotkeys...) are saved in the registry in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Citrix\CitrixQuickLaunch.

When clicking the “Save Config” button in the “General” tab, current settings in the tool are saved in the above registry key, in a specific subkey. These settings will be used when launch the tool using command line.

Multiuser launch

When enabled, this option will allow entering multiple user accounts to launch several HDX sessions to the same resource.

Click on “Options…” to specify the user account. If an user and password have been entered in the “General” tab, it will be reused.

Clicking on + or – will respectively add or remove accounts. These accounts MUST exist in the target AD domain and have proper rights to the resource.

A maximum of 30 accounts can be specified

The default delay between each session launch is by default of 20 seconds.

Command line switches

/debug : enables debug mode, which output data visible by DebugView

/silent : hide the GUI when running the tool

/s: specify the DDC address and port if different than 80 (myddc.contorso.local:443 for example)

/a: specify the resource name (use quotes if it contains a space)

/u: specify the username and domain (using domain\username)

/p: specify the password (between quotes if it contains a space)

/vda: allows direct connection to a multisession VDA

/?: displays the list of command line switches

Note:- multiuser launch is NOT available in command line.

Troubleshooting Citrix QuickLaunch

Error logging

When the silent mode is enabled, all error messages (from the tool but also any error received from the DCC XML service) are logged in the application event log, using the “Citrix Quick Launch” source.
The /debug switch captures logging from the tool as detailed in the next section.

In case of an error or a crash of Citrix QuickLaunch

If an error or a crash occurs, it is possible to run DebugView (from www.sysinternals.com) beside Citrix QuickLaunch to capture traces.

To enabled tracing with Citrix QuickLaunch, please run the tool with the /debug switch.

Security Permissions Required by Citrix QuickLaunch

No special permissions required for the user.
