What would the Game of Thrones theme song sound like if it was played in a hard rock style by, say, Prophets of Rage‘s Tom Morello, Anthrax‘s Scott Ian, Extreme‘s Nuno Bettencourt and Brad Paisley? Glad you asked. Thanks to the Fender Custom Shop we now know.
Plugging in their new Sigil Collection electric guitars, the fearsome foursome were joined in a video by GoT co-showrunner Dan Weiss and GoT composer Ramin Djawadi as they tried to figure out the tricky, moody melody with some help from their spirit guides. Soon enough, the guitarists welcomed Paisley to sit in and, as Bettencourt suggested, “sprinkle some fairy dust” on their hard rockin’ version of the haunting instrumental.
With Djawadi leading the thundering charge, Morello took the top melodic line — adding in one of his signature note-bending, vibrant solos — as each player took his turn putting some stank on the tune, including a pair of impressive rips from Weiss and Paisley’s tasteful, distorted run.
