Supporting the families of WCK’s Heroes

World Central Kitchen is supporting the families of the seven WCK Heroes we lost on April 1. Thousands of you have reached out asking to help, so we have established an In Memoriam fund that also goes directly to their loved ones. This fund aims to alleviate some of the financial hardships their families may face as they navigate life without their beloved family members.
As we collectively grieve this loss, we are also taking the time to remember and honor the incredible lives our seven heroes led. Below you can read heartfelt tributes to them written in conjunction with their family members, colleagues, and friends.

Tributes to WCK's Heroes

Saifeddin (Saif) Issam Ayad Abutaha

Saif played critical roles that made our operation possible, translating and serving as a trusted and protective driver.

Lalzawmi (Zomi) Frankcom

In the quiet or chaotic moments during a crisis, even laughter and smiles were possible if Zomi was present.

Damian Soból

Damian’s connection to the community and his insatiable drive to serve were irreplaceable in numerous WCK responses.

Jacob Flickinger

Those who worked with Jacob respected his intellect and creativity which made conversations fascinating.

James (Jim) Henderson

Jim’s family says he was so proud to be a part of incredible projects like his work with WCK.

James Kirby

Despite the risks, James’ compassionate nature drove him to offer assistance to those in dire need.

John never failed to make those around him feel loved, protected, and worthy.
