Lions rookie Tomlinson named ACC's top male athlete

The Detroit News

Lions rookie offensive lineman Laken Tomlinson is still hauling in honors from college.

Tomlinson, an All-American from Duke, was named the Atlantic Coast Conference's male athlete of the year on Tuesday, as voted on by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association.

Tomlinson edged Notre Dame basketball standout Jerian Grant for the 62nd Anthony J. McKevlin Award.

The 6-foot-3, 323-pound guard led the Blue Devils to their third consecutive bowl game berth as a senior before he was selected by the Lions in the first round (No. 28 overall) of the NFL draft — the highest a Duke player has been drafted since 1987.

Tomlinson led an offensive line that was tops in the country in fewest tackles for losses per game.
