USDA reports will provide direction on crop size

Purdue agriculture economist Chris Hurt says the 2015 crop may not be as large as earlier thought.  In an interview with Brownfield’s Meghan Grebner, Hurt says that thoughts of any grain shortage were distant in the winter and spring.  He says the planting season got off to a good start, but Mother Nature is giving a reminder that she’ll have the last say.

Problems of too much water range not only from Missouri to Ohio, but also south into Arkansas and westward into Oklahoma into wheat country.

Hurt says the summer’s just beginning so there’s a lot of time for the crop to be vulnerable to changing weather.  His recommendation is for producers to extend the window in which they can market their grain.
