The correct answer to the first question is surely “none of the above.”

  2. Thomas Young

This is a TERRIBLE quiz. The first question is entirely misleading. Has the compiler not heard of Witt’s Lectures on Religious Belief (Vorlesungen über den religiösen Glauben)? Witt has had an enormous effect on the philosophy of religion and there is a huge secondary literature related to discussions of his ideas on religious belief.

  3. Thomas Young

Wittgenstein’s contribution to the philosophy of religion is largely contained not in his personally published works but his personal lectures on religion. His interpretation of religion has been understood as a form of “fideism.” His arguments against the possibility of a private language have also been used to argue against the epistemological position of “privileged access” in personal mystical experience.

Many thanks for your comments on this quiz and we’re happy to see a lively discussion on Wittgenstein. The first question was originally written in reference to Wittgenstein’s published works, as distinct from his life works. However, due to the confusion this has caused, we have updated this question to avoid further confusion.

    Seemed OK to me. Straightforward.
