The Tag Goes In The Back and Other Sales Tips

Tag Goes In The BackAdvice on how to succeed in sales is everywhere, but some ideas have seen the test of time. When you are new or you have new team members, you need the best ideas to succeed. Here are some sales tips and ideas that have been accumulated that have been shared as valuable.

First, the life quotes – things that help you in all aspects of life.

Beginning when you’re two years old or so, it IS important to learn that the tag on your clothes goes in the back. I was just reminded of that recently.

Be nice to others. There is NO doubt that kindness towards others pays off in big dividends. You don’t have to like someone to do this.

Give the benefit of the doubt until someone proves themselves otherwise. You meet someone and immediately don’t like them. If they are on your team, why not cut them a little slack until you see what you suspect show up more?

On the other hand, Maya Angelou said, “When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.” This is sage advice. So you give someone the benefit of the doubt initially and if they prove themselves otherwise, you will know who they are.

A thank you costs you nothing, neither does an apology.

Seek first to understand then to be understood (great quote from Dr. Stephen Covey)

Another way of saying that is, “Shut up and listen” –

Advice Specific for Professional Sellers:

Never Confuse Activity with Accomplishment

Sales is a people business – so study people. Read about human psychology and communication.

There is no silver bullet for exactly what to say or how to be in sales – you craft what others do to fit you and your style and your audience.

Think about your buyer – what problem does your buyer need to solve? And speak accordingly.

Personalize your messaging – there is no one-size fits all answers.

Sales is about attitude – learn how to be present and full of energy and you’ll go a long way.

“Sometimes being told no is the best thing that can happen to you. It means you took a chance. It can help you get to where you want to be” – Wiley Cerrili, Co-founder of Single Platform (sold to Constant Contact)

“Never confuse activity with accomplishment” – Lori Richardson

“Never mistake activity for achievement” – John Wooden
