Increasing access to higher blends of ethanol

blender pump-renewable fuels summit 2012

Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack announced $100 million worth of grants to help install new blender pumps across the country.

Secretary Vilsack says the new partnership hopes to double the number of fuel pumps in the US capable of carrying higher blends of ethanol – such as E15 and E85.

Tom Buis, Growth Energy CEO says more blender pumps will allow consumers greater access to higher blends of ethanol.

He says Growth Energy applauds the Secretary’s announcement.  “When he was governor of Iowa he saw firsthand the value of ethanol,” he says.  “Not just to ag, but the whole state and the nation.  In terms of jobs and in terms of revitalizing rural communities.”

Buis tells Brownfield Vilsack has been a true champion for biofuels.  “This announcement is a very positive step in our direction,” he says.

The competitive grant program will match funding for state-led efforts to market higher blends of renewable fuels.
