Corn planting nearing completion in Michigan

Tractor cab monitors_webCorn planting in Michigan is 91 percent complete, 16 points ahead of the average pace. 70 percent of the corn crop has emerged. 83 percent of the crop is in fair-to-good condition.

Soybean planting advanced 16 points from a week ago, to 76 percent planted, well ahead of the 48 percent 5-year average. 42 percent of the soybean crop is emerged.

79 percent of the Michigan wheat crop is jointing and five percent of the crop has headed, 14 points behind average. 76 percent of the wheat crop is in fair-to-good condition.

Frost threats last week in the Bay Area and central region slowed the transplanting of frost sensitive crops.

Cool temperatures slowed asparagus harvest in Southwest Michigan. As of Sunday, May 24, asparagus harvest was 50 percent complete.
