Planting nearing completion in NW Ohio

Planting 2015 (3)_webA good couple of days and the 2015 corn and soybean crop should be planted in Fulton County Ohio in Northwest Ohio.

Eric Richer, Ohio State University Extension educator says with 80-90 percent of the corn and nearly half the soybeans planted, the remainder should be in the ground by the weekend.

“And many of those, both corn and soybeans are up,” Richer said. “We have just kind of taken a timeout, Mother Nature has forced a timeout, we’ve been kind of sitting idle for about a week and a half here.”

Richer says the wheat crop in Fulton County runs the gamut.

“I would say the worst fields were burned off and probably going to corn or maybe soybeans,” said the OSU Extension educator. “And then the wheat that got planted quite early, in  early October looks quite good, I’m not sure it will be record breaking, but the wheat that got planted early and got top dressed this spring is looking quite good.”

While out walking fields, Asiatic garden beetles and some black cutworms have been found.
