Ag retailers educate on stewardship

Programs ICON

Ag retailers are working with farmers through the Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program to help them safeguard their farms.  Clay Martz, manager of the Crop Production Services Woodbury Farm Center in Mid-Michigan, says the partnership has helped educate farmers about new technologies and potential environmental hazards.

“A lot of our employees along with myself have offered training for some of the MAEAP verified farms or the verifiers themselves through the MAEAP program.”

He says the trainings have focused on pesticide and fertilizer safety and handling.  Martz says some verified farms have storage facilities equal to that of an ag retailer to protect the environment.
