Participants in Day 1 of the Wheat Quality Council’s hard red winter wheat tour came up with an average yield estimate of 34.3 bushels per acre. That’s slightly less than last year’s Day 1 guess of 34.7 and the lowest estimate since 2001.

Day 1 of the tour included central and northern Kansas, eastern Colorado and southern Nebraska. Today the group is scouting fields in western and southern Kansas and Oklahoma.

A final yield estimate will be issued on Friday.
