Why You Should Always Boot Your Apps Before Leaving for Your Trip

I have a large collection of apps I love to use in the air–both ones that require wi-fi and those that don’t.

I ran into an interesting problem on a flight yesterday.  I brought my iPad with me and booted up my favorite apps.

And whoops.

It appears that May 1st was a popular day to push app changes.  And almost all the apps I frequently use needed updating.

The Gogo WiFi is sufficient for browsing and doing most internet tasks–but is not a good platform for downloading 100s of megabytes of updates for apps all at once.

I ended up just sticking with Twitter, Facebook and email for my one hour and fifteen minute flight.   Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing to spend time on, but I’m very used to multi-tasking and switching between apps pretty frequently.

If I thought to try to boot things quick from the hotel, I could have updated all my apps on the WiFi while I finished packing.
