Report: Monsanto approaches Syngenta again

Bloomberg is reporting that Monsanto has once again approached Syngenta about a takeover, almost a year after a previous attempt fell apart.

Bloomberg says it talked with two people familiar with the matter who asked not to be identified.

Monsanto and Syngenta reportedly held preliminary talks last year about a merger, before Syngenta’s management decided against further negotiations. According to reports at the time, no agreement was made after concerns were raised about the strategic fit, antitrust issues and relocating the company.

Monsanto spokeswoman Sara Miller tells Brownfield the company does not comment on rumors or speculation.
