Leo Manzano, seen here at last year's Grand Blue Mile, won the Drake Relays invitational mile.

It took Leo Manzano just four days to even a score.

He'd finished second behind Matt Centrowitz in Tuesday's Grand Blue Mile, but flipped the results Saturday with a triumph in the Drake Relays invitational mile.

"Every race is kind of its own little world," said Manzano, who crossed the finish line in 4:00.05. "You never know exactly what's going to happen, especially on days like today when it's windy and rainy."

A slower pace elevated the importance of strategy.

Manzano stayed near the front, then surged ahead until the final turn.

"I was keying a little bit off Matt," he said. "Once I saw he wasn't going anywhere, I didn't want the field to get too far away from me.

"That's when I kind of decided to get back on track."
