Saturday Morning Coffee Talk

coffee-talk-2015

Well, winter is back. I tell ya, this spring is killing me. It went down to 26 last night. I MEAN. I have no words.

We did have a few nice days earlier in the week, which I think makes the return of the cold that much harder to swallow. But I’m thankful that at least the weather decided to cooperate on the night I had a fancy-pants event to attend.

Last Tuesday, I went to Bubby’s Cook Off, a fun food and wine tasting event downtown Philly to benefit The Friendship Circle Foundation.

Bubbys Flier

It was fascinating. The Foundation sounds amazing, but of course the part I enjoyed the most was the food and wine tastings. I wish I’d gotten better photos, but the light inside was pretty bad for food photography. The guest of honor was culinary legend, Georges Perrier of Le Bec Fin fame, and all of the featured chefs were from popular Philly restaurants.

It was also fun to hang out with some of my favorite Philly Social Media Moms.

In other news, I finished watching Gilmore Girls this week, and I feel like I’ve lost my best friend. I have never “binge watched” a show before, and I hope to never do it again. It’s painful when it’s over. I much prefer watching shows as they air live. You get too attached when you watch so much in a short time frame.

To make matters worse, I’d been saving the very last episode of Parenthood on my DVR for months. I have no idea why I never watched it. I just didn’t get around to it, and once I started watching GG, I kept prioritizing that one over Parenthood.

Then to make matters worse, the day before I finished Gilmore Girls, I sat down and watched the final episode of Parenthood. I didn’t realize I was so close to the end of Gilmore Girls, or I wouldn’t have done that to myself. It’s amazing how attached you can get to characters in a television series. It’s pretty pathetic, actually. I really should go back to reading. I’m always sad when a book is over, but it’s not as all consuming as TV.

Anyway, at least finishing Gilmore Girls freed me up to finish watching Season One of When Calls The Heart in preparation for the premiere of Season Two tonight. I’m really enjoying this series. It’s not nearly as cheesy as I’d feared it would be. And they cleverly finished Season One with a cliffhanger, so of course I’m dying to find out what happens.

Well, that’s it for me. It’s clearly not a very exciting life I lead. Although I’m pretty stoked to be returning to Arizona this week for a blogging conference. I’m overdue for an event like this. I always feel so motivated and inspired when I get back from a blogging conference, and I really need that boost right now. I’ve been feeling pretty blah about blogging and life in general lately. And it doesn’t hurt that this conference is located in one of my favorite spots in the world. I can’t wait for palm trees and cacti and sun and dry heat.

Hope you have a lovely weekend!

  1. hi, I’ve been wanting to watch the Gilmore girls for quite a while, what I’m wondering is if it would be suitable for my daughter too who’s 11 (12 in October)?? I know everyone is different but I’d like your opinion, there’s so little we can watch together that not either violent or too “adult” if you get my drift, many thanks, Martina

    1. Hey Martina. It definitely gets pretty adult. There are not graphic sex scenes, but it is obvious what is happening, and they talk about it with their friends. There is lots of sex out of wedlock and also cheating on relationships that I didn’t appreciate. The first couple of seasons are okay, and I did watch some of them with my daughter, but I ended up watching most of it without her just because you never know when something is coming. I think it really depends on how much you want her to see and think about and if you want the opportunity to discuss those things (In which case, it can be good) or if you’d rather keep her innocent of it all for now.
