Midday cash livestock markets

Typical of Tuesday the cash cattle market is quiet with bids and asking prices still not well defined. A few early showlists have been priced around 163.00 in the South, and 236.00 plus in the North. Significant trade volume will probably be delayed until the second half of the week.

Boxed beef cutout values are mixed with the choice up 1.56 at 260.70, and select 250.96 down 1.24.

Feeder cattle receipts at the Oklahoma National Stockyards on Monday totaled 5,500 head. Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers were mostly steady to 4.00 lower, with the exception of 650 to 750 pound steers which traded 2.00 to 3.00 higher. Steer and heifer calves were mostly steady on a light test. The quality was plain to average. Feeder steers medium and large 1 weighing 721 pounds averaged 225.96 per hundredweight. 721 pound heifers averaged 201.48.

Barrows and gilts in the Western direct trade area are 1.78 lower with a weighted average of 60.65 on a carcass basis. The Iowa/Minnesota, Eastern and national direct trade ae not reported due to confid3entiality. Missouri direct base carcass meat price is fully steady from 39.00 to 50.00. The top price of 50.00 is for premise ID hogs.

The pork carcass cutout value is up .98 at 68.84 FOB plant.

Monday’s run of market ready hogs seemed limited, suggestive that we are slowly but surely moving past peak supplies. Tightening numbers through May and June should be price friendly.
