Programs ICON

In Michigan last week, farmers had about four days for fieldwork and planting according to the USDA’s weekly crop progress and conditions report. As of Sunday, corn planting was only 3 percent behind the five year average. Sugar beet planting was reported at 28 percent complete, 15 percent behind average. The winter wheat crop improved slightly from last week to 57 percent good to excellent.

Fruit development in Michigan picked up with last week’s warmer temperatures. Apricot bloom is only expected a week behind normal. Winter injury in peaches, Japanese plums and cherries varies across the state. Apples, pears, blueberries, strawberries and brambles all reported growth. Grapes remained dormant.
