Does Your Makeup Routine Change with Every Season?

Does Your Makeup Routine Change with Every Season

I’m sure y’all know by now that I’ve become a bit of a YouTube junkie now and have been consuming beauty videos like there’s no tomorrow. Recently, a lot of videos and even blog posts have been on autumn/fall makeup tutorials (if they’re based in Australia or New Zealand) or spring makeup tutorials (if they’re based anywhere in the Northern hemisphere). Autumn makeup tutorials feature a lot of warm, dark, muted tones and spring makeup tutorials feature a lot of pastels and pink lippies.

This made me wonder – does your makeup routine change with the change of a new season? Does it become warmer in the colder months and brighter in the warmer months? Or does it remain the same?

For me, unfortunately, I’m a bit of a boring ol’ fart. I stick to what works for me and what works for me are warm colours. It doesn’t matter if it’s summer; I’ll still be sporting bronze-y eyeshadows. If it’s winter, I’ll be wearing bright lipsticks.

While my eye makeup is very predictable throughout the year, I do change my blushes and lipsticks when there’s a change of seasons. The rebel in me likes to do the contrary – I’ll wear soft colours in summer and bright colours in winter. Weird, right?

The colder months are already dreary enough; I’d rather wear something bright to perk my complexion up on top of all the black I usually wear. Bright nail colours, bright coral/red/fuchsia lips and a lovely strong blush are my choice of colours for the colder months. As much as I adore burgundy lips on others, it’s not a good look on me so I stay away from that. I don’t really wear pastel makeup so that’s out the window for spring.

I like to stick to what works for me and if a lovely bright lip colour looks good on me, I’m happy to wear it any time of the year. Like I said. Boring ol’ fart. 😛

What about you? Does your makeup routine change when the season changes? If you live in a tropical country with just one season, do you find your makeup choices changing with what’s trendy at the moment?

I agree 100%, I don’t really understand this obsession with ‘different colours for different seasons’! Me, I wear what I want when I want, bright colours included!

Haha I know right? Burgundies are beautiful for autumn and winter but it seems like almost a faux pas to wear it in spring and summer. But if the person loves burgundy lips, why should wearing it in cold seasons only matter?

I just match my lippies to my outfits, not the seasons! Having said that I think we have a different perspective coming from Asian countries where the weather is more or less various degrees of warm. Hence what we wear is more or less constant.

My choice of makeup barely changed when I was still living in Malaysia. I just needed to make sure nothing melts off from the heat!

I don’t care about what season it is either. I wear whatever I went whenever I want. It’s much more fun!

I agree G! Wear those pastels in winter, what’s wrong with that? 😛

Odd question, but what is the palette at the bottom centre, and the blush on the right? The colours look amazing!

I stick to neutral eyes and pink blush forever, so the picture is totally relevant to my interests

Haha the eyeshadow palette at the bottom centre is from Bobbi Brown (can’t remember the name but it was from last season’s collection, I think) and the blush is IT Cosmetic’s CC+ Radiance Ombre Blush in Je Ne Sais Quoi. 🙂

I probably do wear more dark lipsticks in winter and bright lipsticks in summer, but I really love dark berry lipsticks, and have a habit of whipping them out in summer 😛

Good on you because why the hell not? 😀

A little bit. But not really?! Deep berry tones are really wintery but also work in summer. Bright pops of colour are usually seen as summer/spring but I find them so cheery, especially in Canberra’s arctic winters, it’s usually the only thing that makes me feel somewhat happy when I’m bundled up to the eyeballs in winter woolies!

I agree! Bright colours would definitely perk up an otherwise gloomy and cold day. That’s why it baffles me that makeup trends go for warm and dark colours in autumn and winter because shouldn’t we do the opposite to make the cold weather not so dreary?
