'Orphan Black' is back!

Special for USA TODAY
Kristian Bruun as Donnie and Tatiany Maslany as Alison on Orphan Black.

Season three of the amazing (and addicting) sci-fi show Orphan Black has begun, and fans and authors alike are excited to see what the show's writers have in store. What's going to happen with the Project Castor clones? Why do they even exist? Will the four main clones be able to stick together? What will happen with Rachel (pencil in the eye)? Will our romantic couple, Donnie and Alison, get closer? And so, so many more pressing questions! I definitely recommend this weird series that I started watching because author Danielle Paige was gushing about it on Twitter. My sister and I are now hooked, and Saturdays can't come soon enough!

Today, we chat with Kristian Bruun, who plays clone Alison's lovable and sometimes mysterious hubby, Donnie. Then we check in with authors Danielle Paige (The Wicked Will Rise), Kami Garcia (Unmarked) and R.G. Alexander (Curious) about their favorite clones and what they'd like to see happen this season.

First up, our interview with Kristian …

Which of the clone characters is your favorite?

Kristian: In season one, it was Helena. In season two, it was Rachel. I don't know if that's because they were "bad clones" in their perspective seasons, but they were certainly fascinating and wild and so far removed from Tatiana's actual personality. I like to think of Helena as an explosion and Rachel as an implosion.

Do you consider Donnie to be a good guy or bad guy?

Kristian: Donnie loves his wife and family and will do anything to keep them safe. He's a good guy but certainly not perfect.

How would you like to see Donnie's character grow over the coming seasons? Or in the future?

Kristian: I would like to see Donnie continue to explore his "badass" side. Also, maybe Donnie can explore more comfortable types of underwear.

What can we look forward to in the developing relationship between Donnie and Alison?

Kristian: Expect to see Team Hendrix back on track in their marriage. Finally we get to see Donnie and Alison in love again, working together to keep their family safe.

Tatiana Maslany as Alison on Orphan Black.

What's your favorite part of season one?

Kristian: Episode six, when the poop hits the fans in the suburbs. The craft room of terror (when Alison tortures Donnie with the glue gun) is a highlight, of course, but the whole episode is a gem. The stuff in the garage between Paul and Vic the Dick is priceless.

Season two?

Kristian: I loved how shocking the death of Dr. Leekie (at Donnie's trigger-happy hand) was, but I adore the stuff Alison and Donnie got to do in episode nine in the garage. Those who have seen it know exactly what I'm talking about.

If Donnie were cloned, what would a couple of his clones be like?

Kristian: I think Donnie clones would just be way too sexy for the small screen. I mean, that many manly men in tighty whities?! All the soccer moms watching the show wouldn't be able to handle it. That said, I would love to explore some smarter Donnies. Some slicker/more suave Donnies. Maybe even some hitmen Donnies? Yeah. That sounds good. A James Bond-like Donnie. But that's just me finding a way to play one of my dream roles, a spy.

Now, we find out what some of our favorite authors think about Orphan Black …

If you were one of the clones, what would your defining characteristic be?

Danielle Paige: As a writer I'd have to say imagination. But since it's Orphan Black, I'd have to take it to the extreme. I'd be a pathological liar so I could use my skills to avoid getting caught by the Neolutionists, Proletheans, etc.

Tatiana Maslany as Cosima on Orphan Black.

R.G. Alexander: Tough decision. Sarah has a resilience and inner strength that I admire. Cosima (my crush) has a brain I adore, a fashion I covet and a positive outlook everyone could learn from. Alison is crazy, but she has skills with a hot-glue gun I'd borrow. *G* Helena, well, I'm a little in love with her, too, despite her insanity. She's my sestra from another mother. I think, since smart — to me — is so very sexy, I'd have to go with Cosima's brain.

Kami Garcia: Street smarts. The Bourne Identity awareness of your surroundings and the ability to think fast and get yourself out of a bad situation. My stepfather was an undercover cop, so that's a characteristic I have covered.

What type of Project Castor clone would you like to see in the series?

Danielle: I am so curious about the boy clones. I think a celebrity clone. A rock star or an actor who is super talented but a total train wreck. I would love to see Tatiana play that, though, too! She can play anything! She is Meryl Streep-esque! And I kind of wish there were a surprise clone! Project Donnie, anyone? Would love to see a superspy Donnie! Or a villainous Donnie ... I am a fan!

Tatiana Maslany as Sarah on Orphan Black.

R.G.: Sane and ordinary would really be an interesting change of pace lol — but I'm not expecting it.

Kami: My vote is for a Felix clone. I would also love a Jason Bourne-level assassin, and a clone with telekinesis or clairvoyance.

Which book hero would be perfect as one of the clones?

Danielle: Nox, of course. I do love him with my Amy, but if he were to live in the alternate universe of Orphan Black, I'd like to see him with Sarah because she could use a little magic in her life, she has definitely earned it.

R.G.: Oh wow. Um. That's tough. LOVE Mr. Darcy ... but that would be a heck of a lot of sexual repression lol. Oooh, maybe I'm weird but how interesting would it be to have a Tyrion Lannister clone army? It would take over the world in a week. (I told you, I like smart.)

Kami: It's tricky because most of the heroes in my novels are much younger than the characters in Orphan Black. I'd love to see Jared from Unbreakable with a younger Sarah. His combat skills and access to the other Legion members would offer her human and paranormal protection. And he's a hot twin. You can't go wrong there.

If you could put one of your heroes/heroines in Orphan Black …

Danielle: Oh, I would love to see Dorothy in Orphan Black. I bet she would want to clone herself! I would kill to see her go head-to-head against Helena.

Or Indigo, I think a Goth munchkin could fit in well in the Orphan Black universe. She and Felix would bond and he would design her a new tattoo.

Tatiana Maslany as Helena on Orphan Black.

R.G.: Hero: Would be a three-way tie. Ram or Brandon from Burn With Me or Owen Finn from Curious. (Felix would love Owen.) Heroine: I think Aziza Jane from Burn With Me is crazy and badass enough to be Helena and Sarah's third sestra. *G*

Kami: I would rather put one of my villains in Orphan Black. Sarafine from Beautiful Creatures is deliciously wicked. She is definitely the kind of mother who would clone her child.

What question do you most want answered this season?

Danielle: I want to wait for it — but when do we get to meet the "mother" of all the clones? Is there an actual "original"? I know we met Sarah and Helena's birth mother briefly and tragically, but I would love to see Tatiana play whoever she is!

Are there any more "projects" out there? Would love it if there were a surprise, like an army of Donnies or Felixes or Pauls out there ... everyone should have a clone!

R.G.: Is Kira the golden child? Seriously, she has some kind of weirding way that fascinates me. Does she just get it from her supersexy intuitive dad, or is it something to do with being the child of a clone?

Kami: Who is the original clone? Are we getting closer to the truth about why/how the project started? I'm expecting a few red herrings — or a twist we don't see coming at all (my absolute favorite). I want more of Helena's story.
