The Royal Australian Mint has released a new $5 silver proof triangular coin to mark Anzac Day 2015. The coin is part of the Official Anzac Centenary Program.
Anzac Day is a national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand broadly commemorating all Australians and New Zealanders who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations and the contribution and suffering of all who have served.
The reverse design of the coin features an image which shows two soldiers supporting a wounded comrade. The scene provides an example of how the experiences of Australians and New Zealanders on the battlefield created a union between the two countries with with the enduring qualities of friendship, shared history, and pride in the courage and sacrifices of the original ANZACs.
The obverse carries the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II with the 2015-date.
The same design had been used on the Australian coin included within the Anzac Centenary 2015 Two Coin Set offered by ballot. The ballot coin was a proof color printed versions limited to a mintage of 1,915 pieces.
The latest version of the coin is struck in proof quality without color and carries a mintage of 10,000 pieces. The remaining specifications are diameter of 33.90 mm and weight of 22.23 grams. Orders for the coin are dispatched after April 7, 2015.
