Lions take Malcom Brown in McShay's 4.0

Texas defensive tackle Malcom Brown will be the Lions' first-round pick (No. 23 overall) in the NFL draft, ESPN's Todd McShay projects in his Mock Draft 4.0, published Monday.

McShay calls Brown (6-2, 320) "another great value pick" in his projected first round.

"The Lions added Haloti Ngata to help ease the sting of losing Ndamukong Suh in free agency, but not only is Ngata getting up in age and not the same level of dominant force that Suh was, but Detroit also saw Nick Fairley leave in free agency," McShay says. "Brown is a very good run defender and an improving pass-rusher, and he has the versatility to play multiple spots along the defensive front."

In his Mock Draft 3.0, McShay had the Lions taking Florida State center Cameron Erving at No. 23. But Erving has moved up to the Chiefs with the No. 18 pick, in McShay's estimation.

McShay also has Michigan State cornerback Trae Waynes going to the Niners at No. 15.
