Indiana Soybean Alliance endowed chair for new uses at Purdue University Nathan Moser says developing new uses for soybeans creates real and lasting economic benefits for soybean farmers not just in Indiana, but across the country.

He tells Brownfield developing new products that use soybeans requires innovation.  “We really need to have new scientist, technicians, and people in business that understand the value of soybeans and soybean products,” he says.  “Soybeans can be useful in making new products that great value and enormous economic potential.”

Moser says the biggest impact new uses have is helping to expand markets.  “The more uses for soybeans and the greater potential for stability in the market,” he says.  “When you’re dependent upon fewer industries or there is more industries looking to buy soybeans or soybean derived products there’s not as much fluctuation in prices and there’s more overall demand for the product.”

And with an increased demand for soybeans, a stronger, more reliable price for the commodity is created.
