Foam Arrow Wall Art

This year I decided that I wanted to step out of my box a little bit and try my hand at some new DIY techniques. I tend to be a creature of habit but I really want to learn to use new products and supplies and this foam arrow wall art was the perfect place to start!

I’ve worked with foam before but never like this. AND I have to say that using FloraCraft® StyroCutter® Plus makes a HUGE difference! The last time I cut foam I used a kitchen knife and lets just say that was not a good idea!

I have a thing for arrows lately (who doesn’t right?) so I figured I would make one out of the foam sheets that I got from FloraCraft® Make It: Fun®. I like easy projects and this turned out to be easy. Score!

I started out by cutting out an arrow I made and printed and pinning it to my foam. I pinned it because the edges were rolling up and this would make it easy for me to trace my design onto the foam.

I traced my arrow with a brown sharpie.

Next, I took my FloraCraft® StyroCutter® Plus and cut out my arrow. The StyroCutter® Plus works best if you move very slowly and if you stand your foam sheet up. Make sure there is no one behind it so that they don’t get hurt. The StyroCutter® Plus is hot so if you have small children around, make sure they know that.

I knew I wanted to paint my arrow so I put a few coats of Magikote on my arrow beforehand. Just follow the package instructions. It’s very simple and it creates a smooth surface (after sanding) for painting.

Lastly I sanded my arrow down and painted it with craft paint. I used hot glue to adhere my arrow to a little faux shim pallet that I had laying around.

After doing this project and using the FloraCraft® StyroCutter® Plus, I want to do  more projects with the FloraCraft® Make It: Fun® foam sheets that I have left over.
