A contrast of weather across the Corn Belt

Across the Corn Belt, mild weather west of the Mississippi River contrasts with chilly conditions farther east. Snow showers are occurring in two areas: the upper Mississippi Valley and the lower Great Lakes region. Current snow depths include 4 inches in Dayton, Ohio, and 2 inches in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.

On the Plains, record-setting warmth has left winter wheat exposed to potential weather extremes. Monday’s high temperatures could approach 80° on the central High Plains and 70° on Montana’s High Plains.

In the South, a mix of rain and snow is falling in the southern Mid-Atlantic region in conjunction with a developing coastal storm. Meanwhile, rain showers are crossing Florida’s peninsula. Elsewhere, cool, breezy weather prevails as the storm begins to lift northward along the Atlantic Coast.

In the West, a few rain showers are developing across southern California and southwestern Arizona. Elsewhere, warm, dry weather prevails. California’s key watershed areas are losing snowpack to abnormal, mid-winter melting.
