Easy DIY White Twig Wreath

First, you will need a basic twig wreath. You can easily make one yourself just go to this post for the full tutorial how to make a twig wreath from free materials. If you don’t happen to have a lot of twigs and clippings laying around, you can buy whole bundles of branches that are perfect for wreath making.

If you are not up to crafting your own wreath, you can use a ready-made wreath as well. I really like this quirky twig wreath, and this full twig wreath would work well too. And here is a white twig wreath.

So now that we have the base covered let’s get on with it.

I gave my basic brown twig wreath a spray paint treatment long ago. When I started out creating this winter white twig wreath version it looked like this.

Nothing wrong with it. Just a pretty white wreath. But I wanted it to be even more luscious and a bit more glamorous.

That’s why I went on a shopping trip to the after-Christmas discount aisle at the garden center and see if I could pick up some pretties to make this stick wreath look like a proper winter wreath.

Now that is quite the transformation, isn’t it? And it only took 10 minutes after the shopping was done. That is how easy it is to customize and change a twig wreath. You don’t even need any extra supplies.

Steps for Customizing a DIY Twig Wreath

Make sure all the bundles of twigs are securely fixed to the wreath. If necessary give the wreath a quick spray with spray paint for a wintery white look. Then start to add in some extras for your own personalized look.

I added in order:

1. Extra curly twigs that were already white and I bought in a bundle for a couple of euros.
2. White faux fern leaves. These were actually plastic and glittery, but I didn’t mind that they looked so fake because I was planning to use them in the back anyway.
3. Bunches of small faux white flowers. I bought two larger stems and cut them up into these little tuffs of flowers.
4. Artificial pods of Honesty, but white faux eucalyptus has the same look.
5. Pretty white faux berries

The beauty of a twig wreath is that it is so easy to add decorations to it. You don’t need floral wire or a hot glue gun. You can simply push the stems from your flowers and berries right in between the twigs.

And you don’t have to use my choice of decorations either. In the past, I have used pine cones, ornaments, ribbon, and easter eggs to decorate this wreath (click to see the many transformations of this rustic wreath).

When adding the decorations to the wreath make sure you spread them evenly.

Start adding decorations on the outside and inside first then fill up the middle. It is easier to get a good look that way.

Winter Mantel Decor with White Twig Wreath

I Wasn’t sure at first about the combination of my all-natural twig wreath with the plastic, fake — found in the after-Christmas-sale — white decorations. But I just stuck with it and didn’t let my doubt stop me until I was totally finished. And then I stepped back and I loved it. A brand new winter twig wreath!

It became the star of my new winter mantel immediately. It hangs front stage and center and is the true focal point of this mantel decor. I didn’t need to add too much else for a full look.

I added some more bling with mercury glass candle holders. Some real fresh flowers in small vases and a couple of white pillar candles on candlesticks for height. This is just how I like my winter home decor. The fresh flowers, especially the tulips make this white mantel decor slide right into spring decorating. I love that I can keep these mantel decorations up for a long time and let it be my spring mantel decor until I am ready for a new look.
