Caught on Video: Florida Deputy Repeatedly Steals from Walmart - While Armed and in Uniform
A Florida deputy has been charged with theft after he was accused of repeatedly stealing from a Coral Springs Walmart while he was in uniform.
A Broward Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said that 51-year-old Theodore Parrish stole $176 worth of merchandise. And according to a police report obtained by the Sun Sentinel, he was wearing his uniform, and was armed with his service weapon on two of the occasions.
The police report indicated that Parrish committed the crimes by using the self-checkout kiosk, but he purposefully left the store without scanning some of the items.
“It was mostly food and household items such as paper towels, eggs, ramen noodles, frozen fish fillets, bacon, bleach, topsoil and a poinsettia,” spokesperson Dani Moschella said.
The thefts occurred between Nov. 16 and Dec. 8, and they were all captured on video. Walmart had not given the Broward Sheriff’s Office permission to make the surveillance video available to the media at the time of publication.
Parrish, who has been a Broward County detention deputy since 2000, was charged with petit theft after turning himself in on Tuesday. Moschella said that he had been suspended with pay.
