Red meat, poultry stocks decline

USDA reports red meat and poultry supplies in cold storage were down on the year.

On November 30, 2014, red meat totaled 919.081 million pounds, 10% less than on November 30, 2013. Beef came out at 396.619 million pounds, 12% lower than last year, and pork was pegged at 485.796 million pounds, an 11% year to year decline.

Poultry was reported at 889.346 million pounds, a 7% decrease from a year ago. Chicken was pegged at 696.777 million pounds, down 6%, and turkey came out at 190.283 million pounds, 14% lower.

USDA’s poultry slaughter numbers for November are out Tuesday and red meat production numbers are out Wednesday.
