Eastern Air Lines – They’re Baaaackk!

After nearly a quarter century out of business, Eastern Air Lines is preparing to rise once again. On Friday, they took delivery of their first of twenty 737-800 Eastern Airlinesaircraft.

Fortunately the group spearheading this project to get the carrier off the ground, known formally as Eastern Air Lines Group, Inc., also had the foresight to purchase all the former Eastern intellectual property. That means the familiar livery will once again grace our skies. However, that will be where the similarities end.

Though the new airline will still be Miami-based, there are no plans whatsoever to return to the days where the former Eastern carrier was one of the larger domestic airlines in the country. Instead, expect this Eastern to be more like charter aircraft. The new Eastern has not yet announced any specific routes but hopes to return to the friendly skies in the second quarter of 2015.
