Truly The Best Sugar Cookies Ever

It seemed like every year I would make sugar cookies for the kids to decorate and the only thing that made them taste good was gobs and gobs of frosting.

Until.

About three years ago, my mom cut out a recipe for sugar cookies from Parade Magazine and we decided to try it. I am so glad we did! This is now the ONLY recipe I use for sugar cookies. They are delicious with or without frosting. So go ahead. Make a batch. Or three.

And, okay, I know this is a horrible picture of these cookies. It's why I'm not a food blogger. But I promise that underneath the ugly exterior is a delicious cookie that I enjoyed eating after the picture was taken!! I had a two year old hanging from my leg while I tried to finish the cookies and I decided to just let all my ugly cookie glory hang out in this picture.

Sugar Cookies, originally from Parade Magazine, circa 2011

1 cup softened butter
1 egg
1 cup sugar
3 cups flour
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt

1. Combine butter, egg, sugar, flour, vanilla, baking soda, and salt. Beat well. Divide in two. Cover in plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight or at least 30 minutes. Makes 3 dozen cookies.

2. Roll out dough 1/2 inch thickness. Go crazy with the cookie cutters. Place on baking sheets. Bake at 350F for 10-12 minutes.

Enjoy!
