More beneficial moisture for the Pacific West

Across the Corn Belt, mostly dry but rather cloudy weather prevails. Temperatures are rebounding to above-normal levels in the upper Midwest, but cool conditions linger across the remainder of the Corn Belt.

On the Plains, mild air in Montana and the Dakotas is eroding winter wheat’s protective snow cover. Farther south, cool, rainy weather prevails in eastern Texas, while light rain showers dot the southern High Plains.

In the South, locally heavy rain stretches from eastern Texas to the central Gulf Coast States, halting fieldwork but providing relief from short-term dryness and developing drought. Meanwhile, mild, dry weather favors late-season fieldwork activities in the Southeast.

In the West, northern California is receiving a final round of widespread precipitation prior to an expected pattern change. Rain and snow showers also stretch from the Pacific Northwest to the northern Rockies, but cool, dry weather in the Desert Southwest favors cotton harvesting and other late-season fieldwork.
