Biotechnology access is key

With another record year of corn production – what will farmers do with all that corn?  National Corn Growers Association CEO Chris Novak says one of the goals is ensuring markets remain open.  “We need a strong livestock industry, we need a strong livestock industry, and we need open international markets,” he says.  “Each of those have to work together and fit together to ensure we can utilize this tremendous bounty that farmers are harvesting across the Midwest.”

Novak tells Brownfield that also means ensuring international market access for biotechnology traits.  “It is encouraging to have seen the President go to China recently and announce a commitment to work with the Chinese government in improving market access for our agricultural commodities that are made with biotechnology traits,” he says.

Novak says the biotech products have been tested and proven safe time and again – and are a critical component in giving farmers the tools they need to meet the needs of a growing world population.
