Winter-like cold still dominates the Corn Belt

On the Plains, a wintery mix of precipitation lingers across Montana and North Dakota, stressing livestock and sustaining disruptions in transportation. Warm, mostly dry weather in central and southern agricultural areas favors late-autumn fieldwork, including the final stages of sorghum and cotton harvesting. Friday daytime highs are forecast to reach the 70s as far north as western Kansas and eastern Colorado.

In the Corn Belt, cold, snowy weather is affecting transportation and disrupting late corn harvesting in Wisconsin and Michigan. Unseasonably cool, cloudy weather dominates the remainder of the Midwest.

In the South, sunny skies favor late cotton harvesting from the Delta to the southern Atlantic Coast. Friday daytime highs are forecast from the 40s in Virginia and the Carolinas to the 50s in southern production areas.

In the West, a Pacific Storm system is bringing a mixture of rain and snow to northern parts of the region, with locally heavy accumulations expected to eventually reach northern California. Warm, generally dry weather continues in the Southwest.
