For the 67th consecutive year, representatives of the Indiana State Poultry Association donated Indiana poultry products to the state’s food bank network.  Over the next few weeks, the donation, 130,000 pounds – or 65 tons will be distributed to local food banks.

In accepting the donation, Governor Mike Pence told attendees the importance of helping fellow Hoosiers cannot be overstated.  “I commend the work of the Indiana State Poultry Association,” he says.  “Whose generosity and compassion will help combat hunger and make a difference in the lives of our neighbors in need across Indiana this Thanksgiving.”

Donations to food banks and other charities were made in part by Berne Hi-Way Hatchery, Creighton Brothers, Culver Duck, Farbest Foods, Hy-Line North America, Maple Leaf Farms, Midwest Poultry Services, Miller Poultry, Perdue Farms, Rose Acre Farms, Tyson Foods, and Wabash Valley Produce.

The Indiana State Poultry Association represents more than 95 percent of the total poultry producers in the state of Indiana.

Based on national rankings, Indiana is the number one duck-producing state, ranks 3rd in egg as well as turkey production, and raises millions of broiler chickens each year.
