I’m really low maintenance when it comes to lippies. A regular ol’ lipstick and lipgloss that doesn’t require me more work than just applying directly on the lips without the need for a lip brush is A-okay with me.
When the new Face of Australia Lip Paints landed on my desk for review, I wondered how I’ll need to apply this. The packaging reminded me of OCC Lip Tars. The reason I’ve not tried that popular brand is that I know I’ll need to use a lip brush with those crazy intensely opaque lippies. Thankfully, when I uncapped these Lip Paints, 1) they already come with a slanted tip which means all I need to do is glide them on the lips and 2) upon first swatches, these are not as intense as I expected them to be. It’s a good thing because if they really were like the OCC Lip Tars, I have a strong feeling I’m not going to like them.
Face of Australia’s Lip Paints come in 6 shades but today, I’ll just be showing you four.
Pretty in Pink: Candy pink
Fired Up Fuchsia:: Bright Barbie-like pink
Poison Apple:: Blue-toned red
Tangerine Queen:: Warm-toned orange, bordering on red.
The Lip Paints are meant to be in an opaque formula but when I applied them, they go on like sheer gloss. They’re buildable to stronger punches of colour on the lips but they’re still slightly translucent, not opaque. If you’re expecting them to look like the full-on opaque OCC Lip Tars, you’ll be sorely disappointed because these will not give you a similar effect. The Lip Paints are a hybrid of liquid lipstick and lipgloss so you’ll be left with a very glossy finish on the lips.
The Pretty in Pink didn’t work for me at all; then again, those sort of shades never look good on me anyway. The rest are not bad at all. Of all the colours, my favourites are Fired Up Fuchsia and Tangerine Queen. I thought I’d prefer Poison Apple to Tangerine Queen given that I’m usually a fan of those sort of bright cherry red shades but somehow, it didn’t apply very well and made the lippie appear uneven on my lips. Staying power is also meagre. It doesn’t last past meals and reapplications are a must.
I’m not sure if this will happen to you but whenever I apply it directly on my lips using the slanted tip, the product doesn’t blend on the lips quickly. I had to smack my lips several times for the product to be distributed evenly. I’m sure this will be easier if I used a lip brush but the point is NOT needing to use anything extra that I’ll have to clean up later, right? 😛
